Connecting with Others

“I’m here.” Never are those words more important than in this digital age.

A time that is supposed to bring us closer together, and yet so many people feel further apart and disconnected. Our virtual presence in other peoples’ lives does not offset real loneliness or the genuine feeling that we have to endure something alone.

Tarot readings are a way in which people can connect. I have found many times over that people are just looking for someone to tell them that things are okay, that THEY are okay. It’s easy to say that to a friend, or a co-worker, or family member. Heartfelt or not, its easy: deriving a message wherein you actually say that whilst offering up some advice, some words of caution, some gentle nudges in a certain direction, now that’s hard!

Tarot clients need to feel good – anytime someone reaches out they want understanding, compassion, guidance… but most of all they want to be heard. Tarot takes that ‘hearing’ and ramps it up a few notches because it’s not just being heard by someone who’s heard it all before and it’s not being heard by a relative stranger who’s doing their job. It’s being heard by the universe.

Tarot Card readings give order, they give understanding and they give hope to the client. You want to feel as though there is purpose to your wanderings and that even if you are lost, you won’t be for long. As a reader, you want to share what the universe is saying. You are the messenger, bringing this powerful, impactful message through the cards to the client. If the reader gives a stock answer with stock definitions, they are minimizing the effect and power that the cards have. If the client simply comes away with that message, even if it is clear, it is not what they want.

A tarot card reading is a sacred, albeit short binding of souls: one person putting their absolute trust in the other. Opening themselves up, creating a huge vulnerability with a complete stranger. Placing trust in the reader to provide them with the message they need and want to hear. The reader therefore must not take this offering lightly, even if it’s the hundredth reading of the day, asking the same question for the hundredth time.  It’s the first time that client has asked, and so it deserves the respect and attention that a true professional card reader can provide.

Reaching out, making that connection, waiting for someone else to not just say “I’m here” but also “I care.” That’s the mission of every card reader, and its what makes what we do so important.
